WATER WORLD/Wicked Monstrous Dialogues/MAINTENANCE ARTIST
Making headlines this past year was the massive amount of water being used to cool servers at data centers globally, and how communities are fighting to keep these large facilities from impacting local water supplies, especially in water-stressed regions. Additional impacts include the demands of agriculture and losses due to degrading infrastructure. Unfortunately, water quality, water accessibility, and flooding are changing the landscape of public health. For our 2026 Call for Artists, we will focus on artists addressing water issues and will publish the book Water World in 2027. look for the call launching March 1 This winter/spring we will explore, through a series of dialogues, works that our members are making today that engage plastics as a material for reuse, research, and aesthetic inquiry. Artists invited are included in the upcoming ecoartspace book titled Wicked Monstrous, which will launch fall 2026. see below Similar to last year, we are offering an Eco Fiction Book Club for 2026. There will be a "meet and greet" online this month to decide meeting times over the next year to discuss three books. see below The first edition of Soils Turn has been shipped, and we are currently taking preorders for the second printing. Our goal is to get at least 100 pre-orders this month and have them delivered in February/March. see below This month we will screen the recent documentary MAINTENANCE ARTIST about groundbreaking public artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, with Q&A including curators and the film's director. We also continue the 2026 Membership Campaign and look forward to welcoming you and your practice into this global community of ecological artists who are sharing resources and supporting each other's work. We need all hands on deck!
Happy New Year!

scott bluedorn "Macroplastic Inventory" is an ongoing project in which Bluedorn realistically renders found plastic objects from various locations around the world, in an effort to illustratively classify specimens and record their prevalence. In this manner, the artist becomes an archivist. Each watercolor painting also includes the location, date, and possible identification, along with a mock classification that assigns a "species" and "family" name. www.scottbluedorn.com
